Andy began his career as one of the brightest young talents in Scottish football, signing at 17 for Dundee United and going to score 46 goals in 62 appearances, before a move across the border to Aston Villa at just 19. Here he won the Golden Boot scoring 25 goals in his first season, and even more remarkably his 29 league goals in his second winning both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and PFA Young Players’ Player of the year- not matched until 30 years later when Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the same feat. Amongst other clubs, Andy played with Peter in the all-conquering Everton side of 1985 where they forged a long standing friendship and partnership. Andy went on to win 20 caps for Scotland, scoring 7 goals.
Andy retired to become the face of Sky Sports along with Richard Keys and between them changed the scope of football altogether, turning Sky into the behemoth it is today. He is famed for his legendary and passionate commentary; very few people can think of that Gerrard goal without recalling “What a hit son, what a hit”. Andy now works in the Middle East for the largest football broadcasters BeIN Sports.
